The world's favourite Italian treat has never been known as nutritious. However, by replacing a half cup of regular flour with organic hemp flour, you can add loads of protein and fibre to every slice without detracting from its taste.
Hemp Flour Pizza
Time: 40 minutes + 1 hour rising
1 ½ – 2 ½ c. white flour
1 c. whole wheat flour
½ c hemp flour
1 t. sugar
1 T. active dry yeast
1 ½ c. warm water
1 T. organic hemp oil
1 T. dried oregano
1 t. salt
toppings of your choice
1.Preheat the oven to 500°F/260°C.
2.Form the starter by mixing the warm water, sugar, and yeast to activate the bacteria in the yeast. Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes until bubbly.
3.In a separate bowl, add the flours, oregano, and salt.
4.Add the yeast mixture and oil to the dry mixture and knead either by hand or with an electric mixer until all of the flour has been incorporated. Add water or flour until the dough has reached a smooth, even consistency.
5.Wrap the dough in a towel and allow to sit for an hour or overnight.
6.Roll out the dough into two pies on a clean, lightly-floured surface and place on oiled baking sheets.
7.Bake in the oven for 10 minutes then turn the temperature down to 400°F/204°C
8.Brush the dough lightly with oil and top with tomato sauce, cheese, and toppings of choice. Bake an additional 15 minutes or until golden brown.
9.Serve hot and enjoy.
